GLÒRIA PÉREZ-SALMERÓN (Barcelona, 1958) has been Director of the Biblioteca Nacional de España (BNE), National Library of Spain (July 2010 – February 2013) of which she has been also member of its Board and Permanent Commission during 2008 – 2013.
She has a Bachelor’s degree in Documentation by the University of Barcelona (UB, 2000) and in Librarianship and Documentation by the Escola Universitària ‘Jordi Rubió i Balaguer de Barcelona’ (1984). She has also a Master in Management of Libraries by the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona (UPF, 1998) and a Master in Government and Public Administration in the Information Society: Electronic Government by the UPF and the Escola d’Administració Pública de Catalunya (2010).
She presided over FESABID, Federación Española de Sociedades de Archivística, Biblioteconomía, Documentación y Museística (Spanish Federation of Archivistic, Librarianship, Documentation and Museum Associations) (April 2008- October 2010), and until her appointment as Director of the National Library of Spain, she held the position of Head of the Oficina d’Administració Electrònica (e-Government Office) of the Diputació de Barcelona (Barcelona Council, 2008-2010). She has been Director (2005-2008) of Library Cooperation of Generalitat de Catalunya’s Culture Department (Catalonia’s Autonomous Government), Coordinator of the Catalan Library System and Technical Director of Barcelona Council’s Public Libraries Network (2001-2005). She was founder and Director of the Can Casacuberta Public Library and Public Library Network of Badalona (1992-2001). She has also been Coordinator of the Public Libraries of the Barcelona’s Northern Area.
During the period as Director of the National Library of Spain, she run the launch of the Portal Digital del Patrimonio Iberoamericano (Latin-American Digital Heritage Portal, 2012); and achieved the joining of the Biblioteca Digital Hispánica to the World Digital Library, and BNE’s catalogue to the WorlCat of OCLC.
She has given numerous professional lectures and courses, participated in international projects and she was also member of IFLA Public Libraries Standing Committee (2005-2012). Currently she is member of the Executive Committee and Vice-President of EBLIDA, European Bureau of Library Information and Documentation Associations.
